City Council
Election of Members
The City of Monroe City Council is comprised of the Mayor representing the entire city and nine alderpersons representing nine different areas (wards) of the City.

Council members are elected by registered voters in their ward and represent that particular ward of the City of Monroe for a two-year term. Even numbered wards are elected in odd numbered years and odd numbered wards and the mayor are elected in even numbered years.

Meetings
City Council meetings are held every first and third Tuesday of each month. If the meeting falls on an election day or holiday, the meeting will be held on the Wednesday immediately following.

Most of the work of the Council is performed at the committee level. Agendas for the Common Council, and various Council and Citizen Committee meetings may be found on this website.
